  • Updated

A contractor, or independent contractor, is a legal classification that generally applies to someone who is self-employed and performs work or services on an independent or semi-independent basis for one or more companies. Contractors are typically distinguished from employees and are usually responsible for paying their own taxes. The terms ‘’contractor’’ and "freelancer" are often used interchangeably.
